Magna Granular Humic Acid for Alberta Farms
Looking for granular humic acid in Alberta? Peace Soil Works supplies Black Earth humiZEN Magna, a partially soluble humic granule made from Alberta humalite. It’s a practical option for growers who want to add humic substances to a dry fertilizer or soil-amendment program without adding another liquid product. Request Pricing

Why Magna?
Magna combines a soluble fraction with slower-release humic material. That makes it worth considering when you’re working on fertilizer efficiency, nutrient retention and long-term soil management. Unlike raw humalite, Magna is processed for greater solubility and use in compatible dry fertilizer blends.
For Peace Country growers, the most useful question is where Magna fits in your existing operation: a dry fertilizer blend, a strip-till program or a dedicated soil application. We’ll help work through that and the cost per acre before you order.

Application Rates and Methods
Black Earth publishes the following general agricultural application ranges for Magna:
- Broadcast: 50–90 lb/acre
- In-furrow: 10–20 lb/acre, subject to crop, fertilizer placement and equipment suitability
- Dry fertilizer blending: product-specific blending checks are important before a full batch
Do not attempt to dissolve Magna for a liquid application. Test physical compatibility, flow and separation when blending or applying with other dry products. Follow the product label and obtain crop- and placement-specific guidance before in-furrow use.
Magna vs. Raw Humalite
Raw humalite is the starting material used to make humic products and is generally suited to soil-directed, longer-term amendment programs. Magna is a processed, partially soluble granule for growers who want a more concentrated, lower-rate option that can work with compatible dry fertilizer handling systems.

Magna in the Root Zone: Cation Exchange and Trace Nutrients
Humic substances have negatively charged sites that can attract and exchange positively charged nutrients. Around roots, this can influence potassium, calcium, magnesium and ammonium. Humic compounds can also complex trace metals such as iron, zinc, manganese and copper. We are interested in these localized root-zone interactions as part of nutrient efficiency, rather than promising to change the measured CEC of an entire field with a 10–25 lb/ac application.
On-Farm Barley Comparison: 25 lb/ac vs. 10 lb/ac Magna
This barley comparison is one I wanted to share. The grower used the same reduced nitrogen rate on both treatments, applying 25 lb/ac Magna in-furrow on the left and 10 lb/ac on the right. The higher-rate side is visibly darker green.

The grower reported higher plant Brix on the 25 lb/ac treatment and more than 10 bu/ac additional yield compared with the 10 lb/ac treatment. The variable was an extra 15 lb/ac of Magna, not additional nitrogen. I find that worth following up on because nutrient use and the return on a small amount of humic product both matter to a grower’s bottom line.
